Define three different types of campaign and explain the purpose of each. Give examples to illustrate your points. Now examine one campaign in detail and make notes under the following headings:
- Describe the type of campaign you are investigating ?
- What is the overall aim of the campaign and how do you know this ?
- Who is the implied target audience for the campaign and how do you know this from the language and images used in the campaign?
- What media does the campaign use to get across it’s message ?
- Where, when and how is the message communicated ? (i.e what is the context in which the campaign is shown, what form does it take) How does the specific context of the campaign allow the message to reach its intended audience ?
- What is the message of the campaign ? How does the language use in the campaign (text and images) signify this ?
- What is the campaign seeking to persuade it’s target audience to do ? How do you know this ?
- How does the layout/design contribute to the overall effect of the message ?
- How effective do you feel the campaigns message is ? What are its strength and weaknesses ?
- How well has the overall campaign been designed ?
- How effective has the campaign material been designed in relation to appealing to the it’s audience ?
- What are the strengths and weakness of the campaign ? (in terms of its message, the media it uses, the layout and design of the campaign material, and language used in the campaign (words and images used),
- Select an image that you feel could communicate the central idea of the campaign and then write a caption that would ‘anchor’ the message of the campaign to it.
